The Doctors and Practice Nurses offer advice and help with all aspects of family planning. The Practice Nurse gives routine blood pressure checks to women using oral contraceptive (the pill).
The Community Midwife and Doctor will take care of you during pregnancy, at the surgery by appointment only.
The Midwife will visit you at home during the first 2 weeks after the birth of your baby. An appointment with the Doctor and Practice Nurse at the surgery will take place six weeks after the birth.
The Practice Nurse will monitor patients with Asthma, Diabetes and Heart disease and where necessary a Doctor will be consulted.
The Peacock surgery also has patient led Diabetic support group, which was originally set up by our Diabetes Nurse specialist, Ann Needham in 2005. The group was initially formed as a self help group to support and empower patients to have a greater understanding of their condition and how to manage it more effectively with other sufferers. The group is now well established and is open to anyone affected by Diabetes.
Admission Fee £1 includes tea and coffee, 50p per strip of raffle tickets. Come along and meet like minded people in a friendly informal atmosphere. Guest speakers at the meetings and the Diabetic Practice nurse is on hand to help.

All new patients will be asked to attend for a health check with one of our Health Care Assistants. This gives us the opportunity to meet you, discuss any health problems you might have and offer health care advice before your medical records arrive from your last doctor. Failure to attend for a health check will compromise your on going care and may delay your registration.
For travel vaccinations you will need to obtain a form from reception. It is imperative that you allow at least 4 - 6 weeks before your planned date of departure when requesting vaccinations. A fee will be charged for some travel vaccinations IE Hep B and Rabies. The Practice Nurses will give advice. Routine Tetanus and Polio vaccinations are free; please ask if you are up to date.
Smear tests are completed by the practice Nurse and are part of a screening programme looking at the health of the cervix, the screening actually commencing from the age of 25 and thereafter every 3 years until the age of 50. This is then followed by screening every 5 years until the age of 64.
Advice and help on diet, weight reduction, exercise, stopping smoking, lowering alcohol consumption and avoiding heart disease will be given as appropriate by our Health Care assistants or alternatively a Practice Nurse or Doctor.
These include HGV, PSV licenses, Pre-employment, Sports, Insurance medicals and DNA sampling which are carried out by appointment. These particular services are not provided as a standard NHS service and are therefore chargeable. Please ask for current fees.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you will need to complete a Holiday Travel Form, which can be collected from reception. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting.
On completion of this form, this will be forwarded onto the Nursing Team to determine what vaccinations are required. You will be then offered an appointment with the practice nurse to have your holiday vaccinations.

It is important to complete the holiday travel form as early as possible - at least 4-6 weeks before you travel - An appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. Some vaccines have to be ordered, as they are not a stock vaccine. Your appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Your local Pharmacist (Mr VJ Pujara, 359 Carlton Hill. Tel: 0115 987 3660) is a 10min walk from the surgery. They can also offer you advice and treatment if required for a range of minor ailments.
Under the Pharmacy First scheme if you are exempt from prescription charges you will be able to get the same medicines the GP would have prescribed free of charge for head lice, temperature/fever, sore throat, earache, teething pain and pain relief for toothache though some restrictions do apply.

Pharmacy first aims to improve patient access to GP appointments by encouraging patients with certain minor ailments to use the pharmacy for treatment rather than making an appointment at the surgery.

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.
If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).
It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.
You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.
The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

Should you need urgent medical attention while we are closed, please ring the surgery number. You will be automatically transferred to our "out of hours" provider, Nottingham Emergency Medical Services (NEMS). They will advise you on the best option for you. Step 1 - It's not an Emergency:- Go to / contact your local Pharmacy for immediate health advice & for minor health problems.
Pharmacies sell medicines for a wide range of ailments without a prescription and can advise on where best to get further help if needed.
Get advice or medicines from the pharmacy for:
• High temperature, aches and pains • Stomach upsets, indigestion and constipation. • Allergies, hay fever, bites and stings; • Coughs and colds; • Cystitis, urinary infections and thrush • Conjunctivitis; • Emergency contraception (morning after pill)
Don’t let a health problem become urgent – contact your GP surgery and make an appointment with the Doctor if symptoms persist.

If for any reason you are unable to secure an appointment with your GP there is the NHS Urgent Care Centre , Seaton House, off London Road, Nottingham, NG2 4LA where an appointment is not required. Step 3 - What Is An Emergency?
An emergency is a serious injury or life-threatening problem: 1 in 4 people who go to A&E don't need to be there!
Remember that A&E and dialing 999 for an Ambulance should only be used in emergencies; for example:
• Collapse or unconsciousness; • Severe chest pain; • Severe breathing difficulty; • Heavy bleeding; • broken/ suspected broken bones; • Deep wounds (e.g. stab wounds/laceration) In an emergency you can go to your nearest hospital A&E department or call 999 for an ambulance.
Attending A&E/calling for an Ambulance for minor problems such as you can't get an appointment with your GP or because you have no transport may put other people’s lives at risk, increase waiting times for other patients and ultimately is not an efficient use of NHS resources. Contacting your local pharmacist, your GP practice or using NHS Urgent Care Centre will usually result in faster and more appropriate advice and treatment.
